Exam Hierarchy Overview

Exam Hierarchy defines how an academic year can be hierarchically broken down into terms, assessments, subjects, activities and rubrics for each class. Calculations for the report card and reports are done based on the configuration done in the hierarchy. Exam hierarchy is set up for an academic session by building the sublevels under it in the below-mentioned order.
Academic Session → Academic Term → Assessment → Subject → Activity → Rubric

• Academic Session: The academic year corresponding to the school year. Example: The period of April 2019 to March 2020 will be the Academic Session 2019–20. Note that academic sessions have to be contiguous and non-overlapping. So if the previous session ends on 31st March 2019, the next session has to start from 1st April 2019.
• Academic Term: It is the break-up of the academic session during which the school holds classes and assesses the performance of the students at the end of it. Academic terms can be created from > School Setup > Academic Term.
  The academic terms that are already created are reflected on the Exam Hierarchy page. On the Exam Hierarchy page, you can group the academic terms that are already created. Grouping all the academic terms in an academic session is useful in determining the pass/fail status of the students’ performance, rank calculation, result publishing and determining grand total in the academic session.
  
• Assessments: Terms can be divided into various assessments. Assessments are the various evaluations that are given to the students in each term to assess their performance. Example: Formative assessment, summative assessment
• Subjects: Subjects that are created/selected from > Subject Setup page can be imported under each assessment.  Example: English, Mathematics
• Subject Activity: Subject activities are the tools by which the understanding of the respective subjects are examined. Subject activities can be created for a particular class and subject from > Examination > Subject Activity Configuration. These activities, along with the rubrics under each activity, will be reflected on the Exam Hierarchy page. You can directly create the subject activities from Exam Hierarchy as well. Example:  Assignment, Monthly test, Recitation
• Rubrics: Rubrics are the criteria for evaluation of the respective subject activities. This helps in stating what is expected of the students in a particular subject activity. Example: Handwriting, Punctuation, Vocabulary, Fluency

NOTE

• Depending upon the existing school setup by which the performance of the students are assessed, each school can have different levels of hierarchy. For entering marks into the system, it is necessary to build a five-level hierarchy up to subject activities, and adding rubrics and sub rubrics under subject activities is optional.
• Subjects and terms should be set up in the Subject Setup page and the Academic Term page respectively before exam hierarchy is configured.
